One of the most famous soccer moves is the Rainbow Kick (aka Lambretta). It involves placing the feet on each side of the ball, rolling the ball up the back of the leg with the other, then flicking the ball over the head like a rainbow and landing it in front of you. It is easy to achieve but very difficult to master. Mastering it involves running full speed with the ball and flicking it over the head and collecting it at the feet without stopping or slowing down much, and continuing the run.The Rainbow Kick has now been added to FIFA 08 and because it’s difficult to pull off in real life, it’s even MORE fun to use in FIFA 08. Not only is it fun, but it is a very effective way to beat the defender and create goal scoring opportunities. Watch as SportsGamer breaks down this skill move and shows you how to add it to your game today.

Quick Setup

Step 1 – Hold the left trigger (also known as the L2 button)

Step 2 – While holding the left trigger, tap the right analog stick (R3) once back and then twice forward.

SportsGamer tip: To perform this well, timing is required. Practice this in the Arena for a few minutes and you should have a basic understanding to how it’s done. Also, the better skilled the player, the less timing is required to pull this move off.

Pulling off the Rainbow kick requires that you understand how to use the right analog stick controls. EA has added new skill moves to FIFA 08, and to pull them off you need to hold down L2 and then flicking the right analog stick in the appropriate direction for different moves. To perform the Rainbow kick, you need to hold L2, then flick back on the right analog stick once, and then forward on the right analog stick twice. Here’s an illustration of how it’s done when running from right to left:

Remember you need to be holding down on the L2 button, which is also called the left trigger. Watch what this looks like when performed with good timing.

Play Breakdown

Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo has the ball and is moving down the touchline in an attempt to send in a cross. Ronaldo is one of the fastest players in the game, and can often simply run past defenders. However, when facing a skilled opponent, you will often find that Ronaldo, or any attacking player for that matter, loses the ball because of a hard challenge. Notice in the image to the left that the defender is about 2 yards closer to the goal than Ronaldo. This is plenty of room for the defender to step in and win the ball so Ronaldo is going to have to rely on his skill in this scenario, not his speed. In the image to the right you see that Ronaldo has begun the Rainbow kick. Again, this is done by holding the left trigger, and flicking the right analog stick back once and twice forward.

The ball is going over Ronaldo’s head and the defender is still in good position in the image to the left. However, just at the point where the ball begins to come back to the ground the defender stops to admire the skills of the attacker. When this happens the attacker gains anywhere from 3-5 yards of separation.

By performing the Rainbow kick Ronaldo has now move the ball further along the sideline and gained several yards of separation from the defender. It is important to note that the defender will do a super-speedup to recover, but if the attacker is fast this won’t matter. Here you can see that Ronaldo has plenty of space to cross the ball for a scoring opportunity. The end result is a crossed ball into the penalty box. Final ThoughtsThe Rainbow kick is extremely fun to pull off in FIFA 08. Part of it is because it’s not a move easily pulled off in real soccer, so it’s a great way to surprise your opponent. In addition, if you score because of the Rainbow kick this leads to great trash-talk fodder. SportsGamer recommends taking the time to learn how to use the new advanced skills the EA has put into the game because it really can separate the elite FIFA gamers from the rest of the pack. If you’re still unsure how to utilize this skill, make sure to watch the video above for several great examples.

“…And rabona for all.”

A few weeks ago, in FIFA 07, i found out that any player can make the rabona. It works in fifa 08 too. When you pass to another player, if you tap the cross button and aim 90 degrees more or less from the point that the ball is coming to another player, you can make the rabona.

As you can see, you can do those moves only when your receiver is standing still. Other than that, i’ve allready explained how the rabona can be executed.
